Councils must 'green up' by 2020

on 14th May 2008

The Daily Telegraph recently reported that Councils are under huge pressure to ‘green up’ as soon as possible and cut carbon emissions by 2020. The Climate Change Bill currently going through Parliament aims to introduce a legally binding target for the UK to cut its greenhouse gas emissions by up to 32% by 2020 and up to 60% by 2050.

As a winner of the Shell Springboard awards, Innovation Station Limited (BioFuels International Limited) were interviewed by the newspaper regarding its solid fuel for use in stoves and fireplaces made from fallen leaves. Emitting only the carbon that the leaves have taken in that summer, Leaf Log offers councils an alternative to dumping the thousands of tonnes of leaves they collect each year into landfill therefore providing a business opportunity while offering environmental benefits and cost savings to the local authority.

BioFuels International are currently in discussions with Birmingham City Council about larger collection arrangements for this coming winter as well as supplying Leaf Log for local schools using multi-fuel boiler systems.
