Key Hill Cemetery is Birmingham's first cemetery located in a secluded haven of peace and tranquillity, largely forgotten, in Hockley and although only 6½ acres, it is recorded as having had over 105,000 internments, and is now only used for occasional burials in family graves. Having approximately 300 trees on site providing an abundance of leaves every autumn, the volunteers and friends of Key Hill re-direct these leaves to BFIL for the production of Leaf Log and Leaf Lite firelighters. Key Hill is the final resting place of many of the leading figures of Victorian Birmingham, the most famous are; Joseph Chamberlain, Alfred Bird (Creator of Birds Custard) and William Butler (of Mitchells & Butler), amongst many other leading Victorian reformers, businessmen and artists.
Rainmakers Limited – Ben Way (our not so Secret Millionaire) joined BFIL in 2008 as a non-Executive Director following his investment in the concept of Leaf Log. The Rainmakers is one of the world’s leading innovation and incubation companies, who have created ground breaking technologies as well as working with some of the biggest organisations in world such as; the US government, Microsoft, British Telecom, Ministry of Defense and many more. They help them create innovation from both within and outside of their organisations allowing them to keep on the cutting edge of technology. Rainmakers have offices in London and Miami.
Hargreaves plc - Hargreaves have been working with BFIL since 2007 in developing the sales and marketing of Leaf Log. Hargreaves saw the potential of Leaf Log as a lifestyle environmentally friendly product that fitted neatly into its range of carbon based fuel products. The Hargreaves group of companies are the largest supplier of coal and smokeless products in the UK domestic market. Undertaking commercial trials of Leaf Log amongst their own customer base has resulted in positive feedback and Hargreaves commissioned the first tests of the product through TES Bretby (results available on request).
Sutton Coldfield National Nature Reserve - one of Europe’s largest urban spaces (2,400 acres) with a rich cultural and natural heritage based in the West Midlands. In entering into the relationship with BFIL and the Leaf Log, Sutton Park were able to protect its heritage and use the resources of the site in a new and sustainable way. We hope to continue this partnership in the future and use it to promote further innovative and sustainable projects.
University of Birmingham – The Edgbaston Campus forms part of our leaf collection programme. Working with the Head of Grounds and Gardens since 2008 has resulted in numerous tonnages of leaves being re-directed to the manufacturing plant for processing in Leaf Log and Leaf Lite firelighters. This is a valuable relationship and one which we aim to continue for years to come.
Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council - Climate change is the greatest long term challenge facing the world today, and meeting this challenge requires everyone to take responsibility. Part of this collective responsibility is for Walsall Council to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases (mitigation) and adapting to the changes that will occur in our climate (adaptation). The council is leading by example to reduce its carbon emissions by working with BioFuels International Limited to redirect the thousands of tonnes of leaf litter located across its 15 parks.
